Anne Kempton Albright has been singing since the age of three. Singing “You Light Up My Life” came out of her mouth before anything else. Anne has been singing professionally since the age of sixteen. Performing in specialized opera workshops and leading up jazz bands throughout her musical career, Anne gained knowledge and skills that helped her to be recognized as the Most Outstanding Vocalist in the Nation by Downbeat Magazine.
While obtaining her Bachelor of Music Education at Radford University under the direction of Dr. Marilyn Meador, Anne continued to play and record with NOVA/MD/PA/DC based rock, blues, and jazz bands; today she remains a constant in the local scene having most recently her quartet, Epic, being named International Harmony Queens; the highest honor you can receive in their first contestable year. Epic has become a huge part of Anne’s life and has opened many doors for all the women. Epic has received numerous awards and has only been singing together for just two years this month. The ladies have just recorded their first CD and they can’t wait to share it with everyone!
Anne has performed on the stages of the Kennedy Center for the Millennium Stage Concert Series, BluesAlley, The Birchmere, The Georgetown Club, Nick’s Fat City, The Alden Theater, The Gold Cup Races, Robert Duvall’s Ranch and countless other amazing venues that there are too many to name. Although she enjoys singing jazz, Anne was trained classically and received numerous honors and recognition from both her college and the community.
Anne had the opportunity of studying under internationally acclaimed tenor, Anastasios Vrenios and lyric soprano, Elizabeth Curtis. Elizabeth Curtis, who is now the Director of George Mason University’s Potomac Arts Academy brought in Epic to work with the Hunter Woods outreach organization and help students who are under served in the arts community. Let’s just say, Epic is bringing barbershop to a whole new generation!
Anne has enjoyed teaching voice to all ages since 1998 and strives to give her students the tools needed to find enjoyment and success in whatever their musical goals are. Anne wants to see her students find their inner voice and use it for whatever their future holds.
