Ashland has a true passion for teaching string instruments (including the guitar and piano)! She is motivated to revive and reconstruct the approach to teaching music to make the experience more positive and personal for all students.
Ashland has been involved in music since she was nine years old, and her first experience was in private piano lessons. Continuing lessons through high school she also joined the orchestra at school as the principal violist. She had her first teaching job as a private strings teacher when she was only fifteen.
Ashland majored in music education at James Madison University where she received her bachelor of music education degree and the Joy Holler- Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to only one student in the music education program per year.
After teaching grades six through eight string orchestra in Stafford, VA for three years, Ashland moved to Prince William County where she currently teaches fifth grade strings at Alvey, Haymarket, and Tyler Elementary Schools. Ashland holds a Master’s degree in Music Education from Florida State University, where she also received the FSU Study Abroad Achievement Scholarship.
She enjoys working with children and adults of all ages and ability levels. Her focus in private lessons is on the student. Her belief is “You get out of private lessons what you put into them. Anything can be achieved with a positive approach from the teacher and the student.”
